So, my big plan was to start For Real after we got back from Montreal.

On Tuesday, we went to Walmart and bought a seat to go on the big toilet (in addition to the potty we already have - one for upstairs, one for down), those Feel N Learn Pampers dealies, and about 15 more pairs of panties, so I don't have to do laundry every damn day.

I also bought M&M's and balloons for bribes.

Somewhere along the way, Lauren became irrationally afraid of the potty. Won't sit on it. AT ALL. So yesterday, we put her in panties for a bit, then took her into the bathroom trying to convince her to just SIT on the potty. Sit on the potty and you can have a balloon. PEE on the potty and you can have chocolates.

Fifteen minutes of this and we get about 1.2 seconds of sitting on the potty.

Fine, she gets a balloon. We put her panties back on and blow up her balloon. Steve is BBQing supper, so Lauren takes her balloon outside.

and as she goes to pick it up the thing

in her face, scaring the bejeezus out of her.

So now she's irrationally afraid of the potty AND balloons.

Today, after our outing to the paddling pool, we tried again. I put her in panties and tried to get her to sit on the potty. No way. Eventually she ended up peeing on the floor, which really upset her. I took her upstairs and tried to put her on the seat over the big toilet. I have never seen someone arch their back so much to avoid sitting.

As I was putting her diaper on she's crying and says, "I no like panties. I no like balloons"

So I'm thinking that it's going to be an exercise in frustration at this point. She's obviously not ready.

But in other news, she got her night-time milk in a sippy cup tonight with no squawking. By tomorrow all the bottles will be GONE and if she wants her milk, it will be in a sippy cup.

Baby steps, right? :)

And in still other news, excepting about 3 pages from towards the beginning, Lauren's First Year scrapbook is done. And she's thisclose to being 2 1/2. :)

We used some book called "potty training in a day" or somesuch for Alex, and it worked pretty well. Of course, it also involved the ex-h spending the day with only Alex (baby Juliana was at Grandma's house) and giving him outrageous amounts of liquids and salty snacks and not letting him leave the kitchen area . It also involved Alex peeing on the ex-h when they both fell asleep on the kitchen floor. At least it was on the linoleum :) The theories in the book seemed pretty good, though.

If I may politely suggest, making the switch to cups in addition to the potty training might be too much for her, she just might not be ready for the potty yet. I feel ya on the "tired of changing diapers" bit, though. Alex was 2 years 10 months, and Juliana was close to being 3 years old (I think, or I'm confusing that summer with when she had her binkie taken away).

We're going to take a break on the potty training. She's just not ready for it. As much as I'd love to stop buying diapers, she's obviously not ready to stop wearing them.

Maybe in another month or so.

I agree that too many changes at once can be hard on them. :)

Just an FYI, the Feel and Learn Pampers are a marketing gimmick and nothing more. Faith couldn't feel anything, but got very red and irritated in them. I took one apart and poured a ton of water in it. It takes an awful lot of water *and* pressing your hand against the liner to feel that it is wet.

Faith did like the Dora on them and her Dora panties are still her favorites. I had to buy two packs of Dora so we have enough till the next laundry day.

*laugh* my baby sister still loves her dora panties. (She's 3 and a half.)

She especially loves to show them to people.

Like the boys in her play school. Yep, she's my sister all right.

Sit on the potty and you can have a balloon. PEE on the potty and you can have chocolates.

My mother tried this same thing with the family dog. It did not work.

Oh, I feel for ya! Kylie's only sat on the potty once since she thought she had that "caterpillar" coming out of her bum. Of course, that one time was right as I needed to go on an errand immediately and didn't have time for her to sit and wait, and wait, and wait, and wait.

On Saturday she decided again she wanted to sit on a potty. This would be about 5 minutes after I had changed her diaper at Home Depot. Brian and I were talking to some employee about I can't remember what (information overload was the theme of the day) and I looked over to see why Kylie was quiet.

She had her pants off and was just about to pull down her diaper because she was wet and need to sit on a potty.

It was an "Eek! We don't take our pants off in the store!" kind of moment. She decided she wasn't wet and didn't need a potty afterall.

Sometimes I wonder if she'll ever be trained. But then I remember she has to be to be in school and darn it, I want her at school, not home, for 12-13 years. So she will be trained. Oh, yes, she will be trained.

Sometimes I wonder if she'll ever be trained.

That's about where I am right now. in my head i know she's only 2 1/2 and that's on the young side for being ready. and since we have huge constipation issues, i know that won't help the process either.

my Ultimate Goal is to have her trained before we go home for my sister's wedding at (Canadian) Thanksgiving. She has to be a flower girl and I'd rather it not be wearing a diaper.

Although realistically, if i'm not 100% sure she'll make it through the ceremony, she'll be in a diaper!!
